The Skullrievers are a deadly Blighted Tribe known for its fearless warriors, skilled Kongress Hunting Packs, expertise with both melee and ranged weapons, and skull fetishisation.
Their unqiue hybridisation with a Symbiotic Seablight proginator tendril in the Florida Archipelago has hardened their skin and strengthened their natural immunity to disease and radiation.
The Skullriever’s elite Skullhunters silently stalk their wildlife and human prey across the Florida Archipelago, Ashwastes, and Fetid Swamps.
There are around half a dozen Skullriever Kongresses, each led by a tenacious Skullhunter Chieftain proven in battle and adorned with bone trophies. The Chieftain is supported by a ritualistic Low Blightspeaker with deep cunning and heightened senses. Infamous Skullriever leaders include Kayden of the Desert Bones, Sorcha the Skullhuntress of the Swamp Bandits, Caimán of the Skin Flayers, Luna of the Ōmos, and Deke Grizzom of the Artificers.
The Skullhunters are feared across the Northern Archipelago. Their gruesome deeds and grisly spectacle evoke a sense of terror and sends shivers down the spines of Conch Republic Coast Wardens, Pioneers explorers, Hopesail Confederacy Meridian Dragoons, Masqued Guildas privateers, and Pyrate Republic treasure seekers. The Skullrievers earn their sinister moniker through savage raids, barbaric attire, and merciless treatment of any who dare to explore the Florida Archieplago in search of Ancestor treasure. Tales of their expert hunting skills, cunning tactics, and ruthless treatment of captives has spread far and wide.
“For the cannibals that inhabit the Ashwastes, Mountain Enclaves, and Fetid Swamps of the Florida Archipelago -where strength and primal cunning are paramount- continue to display spectacular cultural transformation. They are more than base alien ciphers. The unique Skullriever 'Kongresses' and their network of alliances, rivalries, and ambitions paints a complex picture of harsh survival and coordinated expansion. As the Seablight infestation clings to sea and land, so does the threat posed to us by the Skullrievers. Their thoughtless savagery belies the threat of the intelligent Blightspeakers and Chieftains that destabilise our United Mission for Reclamation and the delicate equilibrium we undertake to sustain.”
The Skullrievers: An Observational Report. By E.R Carlson of The Pioneer’s 33rd Ashwastes Expedition, Published for the Hopesail Confederacy Advisory Council Report; pg. 3, Rotation 2459-3
Contrary to their savage appearance and reputation, the Skullrievers adhere to a strict code of honour, rules, and ritualised steps. Becoming a Skullhunter is no easy feat, even for the toughest Skullriever Kongregan. Aspiring recruits must undergo grueling trials that test their mettle, resilience, marksmanship, and combat prowess. Once accepted into the Skullhunters, the new hunter is treated as an equal by their peers. They share the spoils of their hunting campaigns and form a bond forged through the worship of bones and skulls.
A distinctive and unsettling Skullriever practice are their ritualistic masks of bone-ash face paint, skull masks, and nose cropping. Young hunters apply white ash and black tar to their faces to create a ghastly semblance of a skull, a visual testament to their unwavering commitment to their cause. Advanced face designs are earned through the shedding of a hunted prey’s blood—a stark symbol of their ruthlessness. A fully blooded Skullriever crops their nose in an elaborate ceremony. The donning of a full skull mask is only permitted for Skullhunters, Chieftains, and Blightspeakers.
The skulls of fallen champions and honoured prey are kept in trophy chambers built around a Kongress progenitor tendril, such as the Skin Flayer’s Ossuary of the Eternal.
The Skullrievers have become the bitter rivals of the Pioneers and Conch Republic due to geography. Their positions neighbour each other in a criss-cross pattern across the North American Gulf Coast that exposes each other’s weaknesses. The Skullrievers wage a daily war against these unblighted humans for control of the Florida Archipelago. The Pioneers and Conch Republic seek to rejuvenate the land and discover Ancestor gadgets that offer knowledge and power. The Skullrievers seek human skulls to empower the psychic harmonisation of their Kongress. Prisoners on both sides are shown no mercy by their captors.
