Habaguanex is a sprawling Pyrate Republic fortress-port located on North-West Tainos Supremo and controlled by the Malvada Armada.
Due to the former Cuban capital of Havana’s defensible layout, much of the ancient city’s rich culture and architectural landmarks have survived the Seablight Deluge and Century of Deconstruction.
Around 475,000 people live and work within Habaguanex. The port’s skyline is a jumbled blend of squat turreted fortresses, light white junk towns, industrial foundries, invasive tropical greens, splashes of colourful red and yellow banners.
The impregnable port is open to Pyrate Republic and Masqued Guildas trade ships and hosts several hundred vessels each day. The Estrada Passage entry is well defended with impressive outer defences. The bay has numerous docks, an impressive ship foundry, and dedicated airship docks.
Habaguanex has been controlled by dozens of competing pyrate leaders since the Seablight’s planet-fall. The port’s current rulers, El Capitáns Gran Diablo y Pequeño Ángel, together usurped control of Habaguanex more than 15 years ago from the Sindicato Cartel. The port city is now the Malvada Armada’s centre of power as they expand across the Antilles Archipelago.
A Port of Opportunities
Habaguanex offers players an exciting mix of chaos and order, culture and danger. It is an ideal starting location for new pyrate crews. Bands of drunk pyrates prowl the streets while scores of locals look for opportunities to enjoy unblighted life. Respected merchants and mechanical workers work alongside murderers and smugglers. Multi-tiered slums press up against massive buildings that have survived centuries of neglect.
There’s always something to see and do in Habaguanex.
Atizan Escenario
Atizan Escenario is an open air performance stage located in the South-West corner of Plaza Vieja. It can be a contest of willpower and prestige to make it on to stage, never mind surviving the highly opinionated crowd’s reaction.
Famous performers include fusion-singer Filiberto Pérez, strongman Magnífico Bruto, philosopher Zangellis, and the Vieja Acróbata Troupe.
A successful performer can make handfuls of coins, small treasures, and local adoration. A poor performer will be heckled and may receive cuts and bruises from thrown objects.
Player Performance
Players that aspire to perform on the Atizan Escenario must first contend with Atiza Maestrex Omara Cruz. Omara will require the player to prove their worth by quickly performing their craft to her (a difficult Perform skill test).
If the player is successful, they will be scheduled as an opening act for a better known atizan. A successful performance (difficult Perform skill test) will result in 1D10 copper coins (+1 per each 10% above target). A poor performance will result in 1D4 worth of damage from thrown objects.
Casa de Cigarro
Casa de Cigarro is considered one of the best of Habaguanex’s hundreds of stimulant shoppes. Proprietor Yori sells expensive but high-quality cigars and scotch. Its the favoured locale for merchants and traders attempting to impress each other. Secrets deals are said to occur in the Casa de Cigarro’s dark corners and deepest walk-in humidors.
Casa de Contratación
Habaguanex’s primary house of trade and public slave market. Independent traders meet here to buy and sell large volume goods, as well as negotiate jobs that require particular talents. Official trade relationships and deals are managed by the neurotic and hard-pressed clerk Seniorita Jeena Inguanzo. Jeena keeps waiting for the day that Gran Diablo executes her for one reason or another, but it never seems to come. A steel vault in the Casa de Contratación basement is said to contain a fleet’s worth of silver, gold, and Ancestor gadgets.
Castillo del Morro
Casa de Putex is a renowned flesh house of negotiable affection in Kasa Blanka Ward. Male, female, and non-binary clientele are welcome. Prices range from expensive to cheap. Client discretion is attempted, but cannot be guaranteed. Customer caution advised.
Casa de Putex
An impregnable fortress and deep bunker that guards the entrance to the inner Habaguanex Comerciante and Armada port docks. The Castillo has radar and sonar sensors, heavy rail guns, and missile turrets. The fortification looks on to the towering Entrada bridge. A large chain is drawn across the harbour entrance each night to prevent uninvited guests.
Castillo del Real
An impressive fortification that overlooks the Entrada Bridge and main channel that flows into inner Habaguanex Bay. Malvada Armada lieutenant Loco Griggs and his gang of pressers use the castle as their armoury and sleeping quarters in between drinking sessions.
Cielo Hangars
The Cielo Hangars provide dedicated air docks for large and small flying vehicles, such as merchant airships, hunting privateers, SeaSkimmers, and SkyLances. The hangar has a central telecommunications dish and is protected by radar and missile turrets. Sénior Ingeniator Learqco (see Chapter 5: Dramatis Personae) does everything he can to keep the rusted electronics infrastructure running. Captain Raffa del Pino can often be found here.
Communidad Taino
A large colourful structure within Habaguanex’s junktown slum where ancient Tainos culture is protected and practiced. Even the Malvada Armada’s toughest crews stay away out of respect to the Tainos Elders.
Fortazalla Commandate
The Fortazalla Commandate is a massive brutalist structure that dominates central Habaguanex. The Fortazalla is the port city’s capitol and is the personal residence of Gran Diablo and Pequeño Ángel. It looks down onto Plaza Commandante and the Piazza Arena.
Hildalgo Ward
The families of Malvada Armada’s captains reside in the expansive Hidalgo Ward. The Capitán Familias maintain goodwill with free citizens through regular community events.
La Armería
An extensive arsenal of melee weapons, firearms, and artillery. Protected by Castillo del Morro.
Malvada Foundry
The main drydock and shipwright for the Malvada Armada. It is an impressive structure that repairs and manufactures barco de chatarra and other large classes of ships for the Malvada Armada. The mechanical complex and neighbouring Cielo Hangar are managed by Sénior Ingeniator Learqco.
Mercado De Barrios Marginales
The Mercado De Barrios Marginales is a popular market that spills on to Plaza Vieja. Hundreds of small shoppes line the streets surrounding the market. The Mercado has a large selection of fish, hemp clothes, traps, tools, firearms, and questionable food. The following lists indicate common equipment and weapons available at the Mercado. Habaguanex citizens either barter equivalent goods or use Masqued Guildas currency (12 dinheiros equal 1 soldos coin; 20 soldos equal 1 libra coin). Hopesail Confederacy currency is rarely used. See Chapter 5: Vessels and Chapter 6: Equipment for more details.

Revolución Arena
The infamous Revolución Arena is a grand structure that hosts savage contests of life and death. In stark contrast to the uplifting Plaza Vieja, the arena sees blood shed most weeks, satiating the primal needs of the port city’s population. Ciber-enhanced pyrates will be set against captured Blighter zonbi, Cambriaformas, and other abominations.
Players may watch the bouts, gamble on the outcome, or even participate in a fight. To gamble, a player first selects the type of match they will bet on. An average low stakes game with a pyrate versus another pyrate or several Blighter costs 1D6 soldos or equivalent goods. A difficult high stakes game typically involves a ciber-enhanced pyrate versus an Awakened Blighter or powerful Cambiaformas, and costs 1D6 libra coin or equivilant goods. The player’s success depends on their Gambling skill.
– On a failure, the player loses their bet.
– On a success the player breaks even and their money is returned.
– On a hard success the player wins two times the amount they bet.
– On an extreme success the investigator wins five times the amount they bet.
To fight in the arena, the player must have a strength of 15 for arena master Konnan to take them seriously. Accepted player will fight a death match with a random 1D6 combatant generated from the Bestiary. Randomised arena combatant and their winnings are as follows:
1: 1D3 Blighters (1 soldos per Blighter)
2: Ciber Pyrate (1D6 soldos)
3: Awakened Blighter (2D6 soldos)
4: Ciber Canjrego (1D6 libra)
5: Cambiaformas (1D10 soldos)
6: Blighted Wildlife (2 soldos)
On a killing blow to the player, there is a 20 per cent chance Konnan may end the fight before death. Players may not gamble on a player fight’s outcome.
Templo Escondido
The nondescript Silent Temple is a not-so-secret front for the Azora Guilda. Bispo Marle and several Guilder Sacerdotex use this location to plot their activities in Habaguanex and outlying Taionos Supremo. Players with Knowledge: Masqued Guildas or similar skill can take an average difficult skill test to determine if they know of the Temple’s true purpose.
Sloppy José Taberna
Many dark and dingy stimulant bars can be found hidden in the back alleys of Plaza Vieja, including the hole-in-the-wall Sloppy José Taberna. The establishment is owned by Quartermixter Ramón González (see Dramatis Personae)
Tienda de Roñ
The primary rum establishment frequented by the Malvada Armada’s fighting elite, the Guerraro De Asalato. Tienda de Roñ offers a reasonable menu of hard liquors and roasted proteins. It is owned by Abuela Elegante, a crafty octogenarian with close ties to Gran Diablo y Pequeño Ángel. Uninvited patrons should behave and keep their wits about them.
Undivided Hospital
An impressive six-story building dedicated to free healthcare for Habaguanex’s bonded citizens. Outside is a maze of graves and trinket sellers.
Habaguanex Random Encounter
Roll 1D6 to determine the encounter
1: A drunk ciber pyrate (see Bestiary)
2: A pyrate gang (see CBestiary)
3: An atizan troupe with a secret for sale.
4: A merchant selling a random gadget (see Equipment to generate).
5: A Masqued Guilda envoy. They will offer 2D6 soldos for you to cause a distraction outside a Castillo.
6: Xeno (see Dramatis Personae). He may join those worthy.
