A SkySail is a marvel of Ancestor aeronautical technology. Its unique hybrid propulsion system combines enhanced hydrocarbon engines with air cushioning lift technology and extendable smart sails to take to the sky. SkySails were popular as elite pleasure yachts before the Seablight Deluge, and have since been repurposed for trade, diplomacy, transportation, and reconnaissance.

Some models include major enhancements, such as attaching quadcopters or scout drones to the hull. SkySails operate best around 20 metres above the sea’s surface, but can tack higher as required. Controlling a SkySail in flight during strong winds is a complex artform that few can master.
